Campaign Fundraising 01 - Summary

Fundraising for a political campaign is often the least-favorite part for any candidate running for office. Although often uncomfortable, raising money is a critical element of outreach and name recognition that wins a political campaign. Without outreach, usually fueled by money, you will not be able to win.

The hard truth for most candidates is that the money you raise for your political campaign is going to come, for the most part, from all your personal connections. That means you will need to reach out to all kinds of people you have talked to throughout your life and ask your closest friends to do the same. With that hard-truth out of the way, you can move on to start your fundraising operation with a clear goal and a fundraising plan, based upon past elections and the size of your district.

Fundraising Plan

Kinds of Fundraising include:

  • Candidate Calls & Outreach
  • Friend Calls
  • Campaign Events
  • Digital
  • Finance Committee
  • Political, Business, and Corporate Donations

Your fundraising plan will vary based upon the candidate and the kinds of fundraising you wish to emphasize during the campaign. A candidate with wealthy connections will look different than the grassroots strategy of a new candidate with less name recognition.

To get started fundraising, you can consistently reach out to personal connections, catching up and asking for money, have close friends invite their networks for house-gatherings and help fundraise by making phone calls, and begin consistent outreach online through your website, email, and social media.

With a fundraising plan, a designated team, and financial compliance in place, you are ready to move forward and execute on your plan.

Remember what you are standing for and be diligent to call those around you to stand up with their time, their wallet and their vote. Every vote counts.
